Korean startups get to know the Berlin startup ecosystem

The Korean GMEP aims to give startups hands-on mentoring on entering the European market through the course of four weeks with a programme in Berlin and Finland. The German part of the 2025 edition is organised by betahausX. The programme is backed by the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development (KISD).

Exploring a vibrant ecosystem for tech startups

We joined the visit of the GMEP participants at Berlin TXL/Urban Tech Republic. The former Tegel airport is the largest European smart city project and a unique environment for startups and international entrepreneurs. It is currently home to some 40 startups and will be expanded into a dense network, including a university, and up to 1.000 manufacturing companies and research institutes.

Promoting exchange between Korean and German startups

On the premises of the old cargo hall, three German startups introduced their solutions to the 20 Korean counterparts. Enerkite presented their airborne wind turbine that produces up to 100 kw. Solaga introduced their project on algae as solution to indoor air pollution. German Drones presented a prototype of their heavy-duty drones. The research and industrial sites attract many startups developing exciting solutions for urban life.

FUTR HUB: Cooperating on urban data for public good

The Korean- and Japanese-German Digital Dialogues are in the early stages of a cooperation with the FUTR HUB, which is the on-site competence center for urban data. So far, the FUTR HUB has already started various pilot projects on technical infrastructure that serve the public good. At the AsiaBerlin Summit, the FUTR HUB and the International Digital Dialogues will be sharing a stage. The startups from Korea will also be returning from their two-week-long stint in Finland to attend the summit.
