Second annual meeting of the Indonesian-German Digital Dialogue

The meeting was led by Mr Ben Brake, Director General at BMDV, and Mr Ichwan Makmur Nasution, Head of Center for International Affairs at MCDA. They highlighted the importance of the Indonesian-German partnership for addressing common challenges arising from rapid technological transformation. According to them, the Digital Dialogue also helps to unlock opportunities for innovation and growth. Both sides underlined their strong commitment to deepening bilateral digital cooperation.
The meeting was attended by various companies, business associations and academic representatives. Their contributions reinforced the commitment to a multi-stakeholder approach.
New work plan for 2025-2026
Besides the annual meeting, a new work plan for the Indonesian-German Digital Dialogue for the period of 2025-2026 was adopted. It was signed by Dr Volker Wissing, German Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, and H.E. Mrs Meutrya Viada Hafid, Indonesian Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs.
The 2025-2026 work plan introduced new focus topics and priorities: in data protection and data governance, 5G connectivity and infrastructure, new and emerging technologies such as AI, and startup ecosystems.
With new work plan and the continuation of the cooperation, Indonesia and Germany reaffirmed their shared vision of advancing digital cooperation, driving innovation and addressing global challenges together. This enduring partnership demonstrates how bilateral cooperation can contribute to building an inclusive, sustainable and future-ready digital economy.

Indonesian-German Digital Dialogue: Kick-off of working groups on AI governance and data protection
On 6 May 2026, the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (MCDA) and the German Federal Ministry for Digitalisation and Government Modernisation (BMDS) met in Jakarta for the annual meeting of the Indonesian-German Digital Dialogue. It was the third annual meeting of the increasingly strong partnership between Indonesia and Germany. A key outcome was the kick-off of working groups, focused on data protection policy and on AI governance.

Harmonising data regulations: Launch of a policy brief
On 30 October 2025, the policy brief “Harmonising Data Regulations: Advancing Indonesia’s Role in the Global Digital Economy” was launched in Jakarta. It was published on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation (BMDS) and the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs (MCDA) with support from the Indonesian Business Council (IBC) Institute. The launch highlighted the importance of internationally harmonised data regulation.

Cross-border spectrum management: Insights from Indonesia, Germany and the EU
On 1 September 2025, a knowledge exchange on cross-border spectrum management in Indonesia, Germany and the EU took place on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation (BMDS) and the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs (MCDA). The event was held in the framework of the Indonesian-German Digital Dialogue to exchange best practices on cross-border spectrum coordination.
